Cam Lock Differential Shafts
Mod. 650 PLS
The 650 PLS Cam Lock Differential Expanding Shaft is designed for rewinding multiple reels of different widths while maintaining a consistent preset tension for each reel. It features a series of self-expanding rings that allow each reel to be wound independently.
The self-expanding rings are mounted on a ground, hard-chromed shaft body and grip rigid cardboard cores by expanding slightly in the direction of rotation. A pneumatic rotary joint installed at the shaft end regulates the air pressure supplied to the differential shaft. The operating pressure ranges from 0 to 6 bar, depending on the external reel diameter and the required winding tension.
The differential ledges beneath the rings are available in various materials to suit customer requirements and can be replaced when necessary. Friction between the differential ledges and self-expanding rings enables independent rotation and controlled rewinding of individual reels. For optimal performance, the differential shaft must operate at a higher speed than the machine. Once winding is complete, the reels can be removed easily by rotating them slightly in the opposite direction.
The cam locks are manufactured from steel or plastic and fitted with a nickel-plated steel outer ring. They are available with balls, bearings, or a combination of both. The lightweight internal plastic construction allows the shaft to achieve higher operating speeds than comparable products, while the nickel-plated steel exterior provides excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and durability.
Additionally, springs can be installed beneath the balls upon request. This option helps keep the cores securely in position during preparation and loading, preventing unwanted movement before the winding process begins.
