The 650 PLF Differential Expanding Shaft with Ledges is designed for winding materials onto cores of different widths while maintaining consistently low web tension. Its design enables fast and easy core loading, unloading, and positioning along the shaft.
Featuring a patented torque transmission system, this shaft offers an innovative solution for differential winding applications. When the shaft is inflated, the locking segments expand outward and secure the reels at predetermined positions along the shaft. When deflated, the ledges retract within the shaft body’s outer diameter, allowing the reels to be removed easily.
Each core can rotate or slip at a controlled speed when the appropriate air pressure is maintained, enabling multiple reels to be wound simultaneously at a consistent tension level. The expanding segments generate friction against the inner surface of each core, with the transmitted resistance proportional to the contact area. This mechanism allows cores of different widths to be mounted on the same shaft while supporting uniform tension control and high-quality winding results.
