Pneumatic Expanding Shafts With Ledges
Mod. 640 PL
The 640 PL Pneumatic Expanding Shaft with Ledges is designed for winding and unwinding applications involving rolls mounted on cores.
The shaft accommodates various core types, multiple-roll configurations, and applications requiring larger diameters. Its main body is available in different steel grades or lightweight alloys, while the expanding elements can be manufactured from steel, rubber, plastic, or a combination of materials, depending on the specific application. The journal ends are also available in various steel grades and are custom-made to meet individual requirements.
The expansion system consists of inflatable tubes positioned beneath each row of expanding elements. When compressed air is supplied, the tubes apply uniform pressure, activating the expandors to grip the core securely. This design provides superior self-centering performance compared with conventional pneumatic expanding shafts.
For added reliability, independent tubes can be supplied upon request. With this configuration, a leak in one tube affects only the damaged tube, while the remaining tubes continue to maintain their grip on the core. Maintenance is also simplified, as tube replacement can be performed quickly without removing the shaft journals. Hexagonal sockets allow the expandors and tubes to be released easily, making the replacement process faster and more convenient.
